Planned Parenthood was the best way for me to get a confirmed pregnancy (: they’ve helped me my first pregnancy, my miscarriage, and the beginning of my second pregnancy.
I took a pregnancy test that I bought from my local pharmacy and it came up negative. I still felt unsure though. The next day I went into the E.R to see if they could help me…
They just looked at me and said, “Men can’t get pregnant, sir”.
My favorite is when I had to go in for surgery. Spent 10 minutes answering all the questions like “You can be honest and tell us if you might be pregnant” “are you sure?” “Are you in a relationship?” “Oh how’s the relationship going?” “If your pregnant then your not in trouble you know that right?”
In my head I just kept thinking (Ok damn, I know that I packed on a few pounds during covid but y’all don’t gotta be this forward with that…)
I ended up just stating “I haven’t even dated a guy in 5 years, and if my girlfriend that I’ve never slept with somehow got me pregnant, then we have a bigger issue!”
I get this reaction when I ask lesbians.. but at the same time my stud bestie is getting IVF .. to carry her and her wife’s baby so it’s like .. the question isn’t THAT stupid ??
I had this happen when I was 14 going in for chest pain. They were like are you sure? And I was like dude I’ve never even hugged a guy. And she was like are you sure? I was 14 dude.
the first time I got pregnant I was 20 with my high school sweetheart of 5 years and I was so scared the at-home pregnancy test came out positive. me and my boyfriend went to urgent care and yep I was pregnant. At the time I didn’t see anything wrong with going to medical place to get a medical answer. I was young and scared. Yeah there might be worse emergencies I get his point but don’t ever hesitate going to a hospital if you feel you need it. btw we got married right away, the boy is 3 now and we have a 1 year old girl too ?
You went to the urgent care center, not the E.R. So you did good. The E.R is for emergencies, like people who got shot, stabbed, were in a car wreck, had a piano fall on them, etc. Going there for a pregnancy test is straight up ridiculous.
An urgent care clinic is completely different then an E.R. In fact you did the smart and responsible thing by going because you realized you were young, scared, and inexperienced.
My cousin legit did not know she was pregnant until she was in labor. She had taken home tests that were negative. So the day she went to the ER with intense back pain they asked of course, she said no, they did their own test to be sure and that too came back negative. They took her back to scan her kidneys and found a baby instead of a kidney stone. He was determined to be a surprise…
I think it wouldn’t be so bad if this unexpected pregnancy happened to me. I am far old enough, can sustain a child, and wouldn’t be worried all the time whether the pregnancy goes well.
I would start worrying if my baby is healthy though as soon as I find out, because you don’t take certain precautions when you don’t know you’re pregnant ?
@Qazaal Ak as someone who hasn’t gotten their period in over a year because of irregular eating, physical activities, etc.. if I was ever pregnant, I’m pretty sure I won’t even know ??
I had my primary care escort me to the ER down stairs after I had a “positive” pregnancy test but both my husband and I were ✂️ after our second child. They thought it was a ectopic pregnancy. Turns out I wasn’t but the lab had mixed up my results. About two years later I had a complete hysterectomy. To this day they still give me a pregnancy test every time I go in…have had my plumbing since 2016. I do agree there is no need to ER to get a pregnancy test though and I wish they’d stop giving me on every time I step foot in a exam room ??♀️
Depending on the procedure you had there is a real slim chance of your body healing from it, both you and your husband. They just want to be sure you don’t have superhuman healing or something.
Unfortunately, I’ve heard this. A lot don’t have insurance, and in order to GET coverage for your pregnancy you HAVE to have a positive test on file from a medical center. It’s really sad.
You can go to the health department and they can test you there if you have no insurance and places like planned parenthood use to do it as well. Either count as doctor notes for insurance/work purposes. The dollar store use to sell cheap pregnancy tests. You pee in a cup and use the dropper it comes with to put it on the test. The test are square instead of stick like. In my state there is also a doctors office ran by churches for people with no money. You can leave a donation only if you want to.
Had a similar situation, @Brittany G. I called to see my OB/GYN for a test and they needed confirmation before seeing me prenatally. I booked an appointment anyway, but wasn’t scheduled for another 5 weeks. I tried to go to the pregnancy center and they had me watch a series of videos about abortions and such before they would even have to take the first test. By the 3rd, I had to assert that I didn’t come here for abortion videos, and I still had to go to work. Long story longer, I left without testing and went to the ER.
Every pregnancy test I’ve ever took showed up negative even when I really was pregnant! I even took one when I was 8 months pregnant and it still showed not pregnant. The only pregnancy test that has ever worked right for me is when the doctors office done a blood test! Also, every time I’ve been pregnant I still continued to have a normal period until I was 6 months pregnant!
@Hayley Davidson I don’t know who told you that because the further along you get in your pregnancy the higher your HCG hormone level rises. That’s the same hormone the pregnancy test detects if it’s a urine or blood test.
Fun fact for you! In your third trimester your body does not produce enough of the hormone responsible for positive pregnancy tests so any pregnant woman who looks like she’s about to pop would show up negative if she did a urine test. Can’t speak for the earlier tests though
@Elle Johnson yes girl, totally! If it wasn’t for me having vomiting the whole time , literally I’m talking 24/7 I could’ve been on that show with my first pregnancy! I actually lost 32 pounds instead of ever gaining weight! Also, I have Crohn’s disease and PCOS so I’m used to having my stomach feel weird like the butterfly feelings when they first begin to move around. So I never had any feelings like a baby when the baby moves around a lot. No strong kicks or having a big belly and watching it move. The butterfly feelings I had which weren’t often I figured it was just the Crohn’s flared up or a cyst getting ready to rupture. I only went to the doctor and they automatically had to do lab work because I was hurting in my abdomen exactly like what I’d felt each time I had a cyst rupture. Plus when I actually went into labor his heart rate dropped from 153 all the way down to 47. They rushed me into the operating room for an emergency cesarean. Literally, the nurse was on my bed straddling me because she was shaving me going down the hallways! They go to pull my son out and he was mostly up under the ribcage, hence that explains the no baby bump. So, they still had to use forceps which then they saw the cord was wrapped around his head twice! Luckily he was healthy just little weighing only 5lbs. 5oz. Once they wheeled him off I ended up going downhill fast and ended up coding twice! It was a very scary! I ended up getting PTSD from the whole labor and delivery ordeal which is not cool at all! Plus I forgot to mention a few days before I was 12 weeks along I was at our local fair riding every single ride there because of course I didn’t know I was pregnant at the time! So my husband and I definitely call our son our miracle baby because with everything I went Thu during that pregnancy and not knowing until well over half way through my pregnancy it’s only because of God that our son survived!!! I was also pregnant once before my son and 5 times after him but every one of those I had a miscarriage due to the PCOS. Each time I had multiple cyst that ruptured all at once.
@Heather Chrisco Nurse here too. Also had a period during both of my pregnancies.. talk about scary. The doctor wasn’t concerned, he said it just happens sometimes. I wonder if I could have been one of those “I didn’t know I was pregnant!” women had I not been actively trying so testing anyway.
(Surely once I started vomiting nonstop and didn’t know I was pregnant I would have figured it out). ??♀️
I took a pregnancy test at home, and it was negative. I felt sure I was pregnant and took two more at-home tests, again negative. In the afternoon of the following day, I was in a car accident after a teenager sped through a red light and T-boned my SUV. I was rushed to the ER. While I was waiting for an MRI and CT, I was asked if there was any chance I could be pregnant. I told them I had 3 negative tests the evening before. They decided to do a urine and blood test “just in case,” and boom. POSITIVE! I guess those 12 hours of increased hormones were just enough to finally register on a the scale.
*The boy who hit me was visually upset and began crying when he found out that I was pregnant, so much so that I found myself comforting him. He apologized profusely, as did his parents when they arrived to the hospital. I’m just thankful that everyone was okay, including my now 12-year-old son. God is good. ?
I tested positive- scheduled my appointment with my doctor – she said I wasn’t pregnant. I went home tested positive – went back to my doctor – she said I wasn’t pregnant – got an ultrasound they said not pregnant – went home – took another test – pregnant – went back to the doctor – she said no – (never did a pee test). I refused to leave did a BLOOD TEST. – oh – you are pregnant.
Why did you refuse the blood test?
The blood test is the most accurate way short of an ultrasound, which depending on where you are in your pregnancy and the individual may not show you are pregnant.
@Dara Cue well there u go. doctors are not idiots. they just follow guidelines. they can’t predict unless they are extremely experienced. but……. they are idiots sometimes ?
I was almost aborted because the doctor told my mom she wasn’t pregnant, prescribed harmful medication and when he realized his mistake said that “I’ll be a monster anyway” and i should be removed but I’m pretty much a normal human
There’s a bunch of scandals and I remember reading up on clear blue when I had a pregnency scare and was told they were putting out false positives. Idk how true it is but I remember being really scared and wanting an ER test. I understand it might be frustrating from a doctor’s perspective but I don’t think we should shame people for going to the doctor’s, it’s already embarrassing enough. If I didn’t get an ER test ( ended up being mandatory but still) I might’ve been too late to abort and would’ve had to raise a child at 15 because I was sexually assaulted. (Two seperate instances btw, clear blue one was consenting and I was 18 at the time.)
Man, I love these videos. I don’t work in the hospital any more, but I always loved all the wild and crazy things that happens in the hospitals, and I kinda miss the environment and hours compared to my new job.
But I definitely don’t miss the pay rate, and some of the gross things I had to do, so…
I’ve had 3 at home pregnancy tests with a week or so in between each all say negative but when I went in the er cause I still felt this strong feeling that they was wrong…it was positive and I have my rn 5 months old daughter. I’m glad I listened to my ‘gut’ I would’ve been so much less prepared for her if I didn’t.
With my first baby, I took a pregnancy test when I missed my period, even though I’ve always had random periods, my body has never been on time for them, ANYWAY, it came back negative..about two – three months on down the road, I go to the ER for chest pain, and I walk out pregnant, my ribs were expanding for baby causing pain in my chest! Lol, I was SO happy! I’d been trying for a baby even though my doctor told me due to trauma done to my body as a child I’d never get pregnant or be able to birth my own baby without IVF and a C-Section. Well, here’s proof miracles happen every day!
I remember my first pregnancy. I found out I was pregnant with a home test, a couple weeks later I started to bleed and had cramping. I went to the ER and their tests said negative. I told them that I knew it was positive, so they did an ultrasound with the vaginal tool and there was the baby. ? They then took my blood and I found out that I am RH-. Only for them to walk in the room with a needle telling me to bend over. ? Got a Rhogam shot.
I appreciate Planned Parenthood so much because of this. No reason to use up resources at the ER if you just need to triple check. Also, the dollar store tests are literally the same as the $30 pharmacy test; this fact is easily researchable.

@Kelly Hinson that is something I did not know before! Explains a lot.

Jajajajaja! This made my day?
Welcome to 2020’s doc?

Well someone higher up in the comments said the test can also somehow sense a ph inbalance caused by tumors or something. Idk
Depending on the procedure you had there is a real slim chance of your body healing from it, both you and your husband. They just want to be sure you don’t have superhuman healing or something.

Um Health Department is free and takes just as long or shorter if you’re there by opening.
@Tala AlexZandra The unlockable bathroom sounds like a broken lock issue. Clinics *have* to provide privacy to all patients.
@Shannon Rickard if you don’t have the money for insurance which means no pcp what’s one to do
